The truth is washing machines live just as long without calgon!
Calgon, Dr Beckman, Dettol and similar products designed for descaling, deodorising and cleaning your washing machine are very toxic β οΈ
The good news is we donβt need them to keep our machines clean! The first step to keeping that machine as clean and in-clogged as possible is changing to non toxic and eco friendly laundry detergents and fabric softeners. Using fabric softener that does not contain animals fats is obviously going to be less clogging of your washing machine!

Secondly use a more natural and non toxic method of cleaning your machine. My method is really simple:
π Add 2 cups of white vinegar to the drum or dispensing drawer
π Run the empty machine on the hottest wash cycle available
π Use a sponge or cloth to give the door rims a quick wipe over to remove any left over residues
π Run a quick rinse
I would recommend doing this once every 2 – 3 months. Doing this too often may be counter intuitive due to the energy used to run a hot cycle… also it shouldnβt be required to do it more often.
Removing the washerβs dispensing drawer and washing it in the sink can be done more often if needed ππ»
