If you have seen my previous blog posts you may know that I have been waiting patiently for a certain product to arrive which I had on pre-order. I opened the tablets and was met with pleasant, gentle clean fresh scents. The bathroom tablet has a similar smell to the ocean fresh type cleaning smells and the multi surface tablet had a clean citrus / peachy kind of smell, both super lovely and not strong or over powering. The glass tablet didn’t have much of a scent to me, but, that doesn’t matter as my glass doesn’t need to smell fancy!

So of course then, I needed to put their cleaning power to the test. I have previously used similar products where you dissolve a little liquid pod or sachet in water and found the cleaning ability was very disappointing (iron & velvet is one example), so I set them to the test straight away…. firstly, the glass cleaner.

A great step towards a greener lifestyle is switching your shampoo to a solid bar. Not only because it doesn’t involve plastic but also it stops the waste of water being shipped around in bottles.
There are now many companies getting involved with creating shampoo bars. Some very good, some not much better than a bar of soap! 🙄
So far I have found 2 shampoo bars and one conditioner bar that I think are really good for my hair, and do a good job.
The first thing I had in mind when I was hunting down shampoo bars was that I have naturally blonde hair and usually buy shampoos especially for blonde hair to stop them from going dull.
The first shampoo bar made specifically for blonde hair that I found to be very effective in caring for my hair was one called ‘Blonde Ambition’ by bath bubble and beyond. You can buy their products from various outlets online. And they sell many shampoo bars in their range for different needs.

The Bath Bubble and beyond shampoo bars are Vegan and free from parabens and SLS.
I found it to lather up brilliantly! Just as good as a liquid shampoo, which made it a nice experience to use! It makes my hair squeaky clean and shiny, and has a fresh citrusy scent but it isn’t over powering and actually pretty subtle.
Fresh lemon juice is great for freshening up fair hair. Sweet almond oil conditions, while Marigold Infusion helps to soothe the scalp and strengthen hair growth. Zingy lemon fragrance.
Bath Bubble and Beyond
I teamed it up with the ‘Blonde ambition’ conditioner bar.
Lets be honest….. Conditioner bars are really awkward to use at first! This one I found much better when it had been wet a few times and had started to soften up, it meant I could get a decent amount on my hands then and spread it through my hair. (Tip: keep conditioner bar in a tin and allow to stay moist for ease of use the next time).
They also have the full range of matching conditioner bars…
So I found this duo to be brilliant for my fine blonde hair. Keeping my colour bright but also keeping my strands strong but with a good shine. When I first started using this shampoo a colleague asked if I’d lightened my hair! It isn’t very scented, but my hair does look and feel good without an irritated scalp. 9/10 from me 👍🏻
Price on Ebay is £3.99 for shampoo bar and £7 for the conditioner bar…. the liquid shampoo and conditioner I was buying for blonde hair was 5.99 a bottle so almost £12…. this solid shampoo and conditioner works out at just under £11 so I am not spending any more for this eco version and it lasts months 👍🏻👍🏻 Lots of places online sell this range so you can easily shop around.
The next shampoo bar I love is made by Nuddy!
I had to try this shampoo bar after I saw a lot of reviews online about how good it was. ‘Practice what you peach’ is a volumising shampoo bar. The first thing I noticed when I received it was the gorgeous peachy smell!
The lather on this one seems to depend on how dirty your hair is… if it is dirty the lather is minimal even though it still cleans… so then when you rinse and then do it again it is super bubbly the second go! It is very easy to use in the same way as the other and gets my hair squeaky clean , strong and shiny but plenty of volume that holds when blow dried! I also found that after a few washes with this my hair is not getting dull even though it isn’t made with blonde hair in mind.
Another thing I noticed after I started using this shampoo.. and I have no idea if this is coincidence – but the amount of hair I lose (and I was losing a lot every single wash and brush) has severely reduced to barely anything!! I have used this shampoo bar for the last 6 washes and it has remained the same with a lack of hair loss 😯 😳
My hair feels strong and healthy and looks shiny after using this bar. They do not have any conditioner bars in this range but they do claim that conditioner shouldn’t be needed. I find I do need conditioner as my hair is fine and prone to frizz as it is naturally a mix of fine curls and waves.
So, a gorgeous peach smell, strong and healthy looking, shiny, volumised hair. No scalp irritation. It has no conditioner but I do really love it and recommend it as much as the first one. 8.8/10

I saw Phox water advertised online a while ago, I found the concept fantastic. It seemed expensive to get started though and so, I didn’t make the decision to switch for a few months after trying to go back to tap water and not enjoying it.

I broke the box. Oops! The Jug and its parts were extremely simple to put together! Easy to follow.

I have been using this jug for around 3 – 4 weeks now with no problems. It doesn’t leak, water is always clean and clear and tastes that way too. The jug holds around 2L of water 💧 and is easy to refill without having to remove any lids etc.

The granules come in a small packet which is plastic free, natural rice paper, along with a carbon felt disk in the same packaging.

It cost me £67.99 for the filter jug + 12 months supply of filter. So that cost is only once and covers a year period of use too (some people it may last longer for if you don’t use it as often).
You can also choose to go with the Jug + 3 month supply option for £39.99 but you do save on getting 3 months free if you go with the 12 month option.

A 2m artificial tree has a carbon footprint of 40kg compared to 4kg for a real tree that’s burned after Christmas. Use your fake tree for 10 years and you’re matching those with real trees. Any longer and you’ll create a positive impact 👍🎄
Source real trees as locally as possible and pay close attention to disposal. Any going to landfill release methane (decomposing without access to oxygen). It is better to burn or compost which reduces the carbon footprint by around 80% ✅
If you have the space, consider a potted tree that can live outside the rest of the year 😍
Another great tip which I think is awesome.. is that my brother and his partner use real trees, they had one which they usually put outside for the rest of the year… they have a small yard so it was kept potted and getting a bit too big for its pot… this year they have been given permission to plant this tree in their local park and have purchased a new one this year 👏🏻 I think this is a fabulous idea!! 😍🌲💚💚💚

Cling film is one of those horrible and problematic plastics that is designed for single use and very difficult to recycle. It takes roughly 2 years for cling film to decompose, even though this is considerably less than many other plastics, it is still contributing a large problem.
More than 1.2 billion metres, equating to 745,000 miles of cling film is used by households across Britain every year – enough to go around the circumference of the world 30 times over!!

Clingfilm was undoubtedly a clever invention that served a purpose at the time of its creation. However, the problem that it causes in it’s contribution towards plastic pollution and the toxicity of the chemicals released into the environment as it breaks down means it’s really something we do need to move away from and find alternative options that are less harmful to our environment.
Can we survive without clingfilm? You bet we can!
Three things you can do to be part of the solution:
1. Switch from plastic wrap to a reusable wax wrap.
2. Store leftovers in glass containers.
3. Cover foods with aluminum foil instead of plastic wrap.

And, I was pleaseantly surprised at how well these work! I use them to wrap up my blocks of cheese in the fridge, left overs in a bowl or a pan. They seem to cling well to any material and to itself, meaning you can wrap it up into any shape, even folding it into an envelope style to hold things securely, once it’s stuck it’s stays stuck until you lift it off!

How to care for your beeswax wraps
Cleaning: cleaning the wraps is importantas they are reusable. Simply wash in cool water with washing up soap and scrub gently until clean. Don’tuse hot water to prevent meltingthe wraps. For a deeper clean you can use antibacterial soap too. Once clean hang out to dry… I lay mine over my dish drying rack and then reuse and reuse!
Refreshing the wraps: over time your wraps will eventually, naturally begin to fade, and the beeswax can begin to crack. It is normal for this to happen and there is a simple solution; place your wraps on a piece of baking paper on a tray and heat in the oven for 3 minutes at approximately 100 degrees Celsius. This will smooth out the wax and make it stickier again (this won’t need to be done often as it will begin to crack only after a long period of time)
You can also buy refresher blocks from the website to recoat the wraps using the same method to get the wraps lasting even longer but they do last for years!
